The centre will be led by NTNU, with the University of Oslo as a key research partner. UiO will contribute cutting-edge AI expertise and collaborate closely with industry and research environments to advance safe and impactful maritime AI solutions.

Key partners in the dScience Partner Program

The centre brings together leading partners from academia, industry, and the public sector. Strategic industry collaborators include Kongsberg Maritime, Equinor, and DNV, all members of the dScience Partner Program.

This partnership will support research, innovation, and knowledge transfer to strengthen Norway’s position in advanced maritime technology, autonomy, digitalisation, and sustainable maritime operations.

Part of Norway’s growing national AI effort

Earlier this year, six national AI research centres were announced in Norway. The maritime AI centre comes in addition to these, reflecting the strategic importance of AI for a knowledge-driven and globally competitive maritime sector.

With a five-year funding horizon, the centre will accelerate maritime AI research and contribute to developing new technology, competence, and innovation capacity in Norway.
