Background
Artificial intelligence is advancing at extraordinary speed, transforming societies, industries, and global power dynamics. Ensuring that AI is trustworthy, safe, fair, and aligned with democratic values has become one of the most urgent challenges of our time.
The inauguration of TRUST – The Norwegian Centre for Trustworthy AI marks an important national step in addressing this challenge. Hosted at the University of Oslo, the centre brings together leading researchers, industry partners, public institutions, and international collaborators to develop AI that is transparent, responsible, and designed to serve the public good.
Building such AI will not be easy. A handful of global tech companies control much of the world’s data, compute, and frontier models. Regulation is developing unevenly across regions, and innovation is advancing faster than institutions can adapt. TRUST aims to contribute to solutions by combining world-class research with strong societal, ethical, and policy perspectives.
The event will feature an international keynote by professor Yoshua Bengio, a global leader in deep learning research and founder of Mila - Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute. Mila is a world-renowned centre that partners broadly with industry and society to accelerate the adoption of responsible AI.
The panel discussion will explore how Norway can build trustworthy AI at scale, including collaboration between research, industry and the public sector, and learnings from international partners.
We warmly invite stakeholders from academia, industry, public sector, policy and civil society to attend this milestone inauguration, to engage in shaping the future of AI in Norway and beyond.
