PSY4401 – Research Approaches in Work and Organizational Psychology
Course description
Course content
The course focuses on recent developments in the field of organisational psychology. The students read, analyse and discuss research papers on some of the following topics: Organisational justice, organisational change, psychological contracts, commitment, team, leadership, burnout or employability.
Learning outcome
Comprehension:
- Know recent theoretical developments in the field of organisational psychology
- Being able to read scientific papers
- Understand argumentations applied in the research approaches
- Understand the methodical approaches applied in the scientific papers
Analysis:
- Being able to identify relations between different papers with a similar focus
- Being able to discuss limitations of papers
Knowledge utilisation:
- Being able to summarise and present research approaches
- Being able to write a report based on several research papers
Admission
Students accepted to the master program in psychology at UiO. Erasmus students and students from other master’s programmes at the University of Oslo may be admitted into this course by individual application to the department. The application has to include a confirmation from your department that the course can be a part of your degree.
Prerequisites
Formal prerequisite knowledge
The prerequisites are the same as the admission criteria for the master discipline in Work & Organisational Psychology.

It is recommended to have read one of the following textbooks:

Teaching
Access to teaching
A student who has completed compulsory instruction and coursework and has had these approved, is not entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework. A student who has been admitted to a course, but who has not completed compulsory instruction and coursework or had these approved, is entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework, depending on available capacity.
Examination
Rules for passing the course:
- All tasks are fully carried out and are fully documented.
- All documents are uploaded to Fronter before the deadline has passed.
- Attendance at least 80%
Exam paper: Theoretical paper of 3000 words or more focusing on one of the topics discussed in the seminar.

You should familiarize yourself with the rules that apply to the use of sources and citations. If you violate the rules, you may be suspected of cheating/attempted cheating.

Language of examination
The examination text is given in English, and you submit your response in English.
