INF1060 – Introduction to operating systems and data communications

Course content

The course gives an introduction to operating systems, as seen both from the user and the programmers point of view. It will also give some insight into how data communication is performed and how to make programs which make use of such communication. The C programming language is applied.

Learning outcome

After completing INF1060, you will
  • know the basic mechanisms in the C programming language
  • have a basic knowledge of the most important components in an operating system
  • be able to develop small programs which use operating system services
  • have elementary knowledge in the area of data communication
  • be able to develop programs with processes that communicate, both machine-internally and over a network

Prerequisites

Formal prerequisite knowledge

In addition to fulfilling the Higher Education Entrance Qualification, applicants have to meet the following special admission requirements:

  • Mathematics R1 or Mathematics (S1+S2)
