FRM-KJM5050 – Bioanalytical Chemistry I: Advanced Separation Methods and Bioanalysis

Course content

FRM-KJM5050 focuses on the most important aspects in all steps of an analytical method to determine biological active compounds (endogeneous compounds, environmental pollution, drugs etc.) in various biological matrices (like serum, urine, cell culture) and environmental samples (water).

Learning outcome

The course discusses the following topics:

  • composition of various sample matrices (biological and environmental) together with their analytical limitations
  • most used sample preparation techniques like liquid-liquid and solid phase extraktion (both off-line and on-line)
  • advanced liquid chromatography, column technology, stationary phases and miniaturization
  • LC-MS: ionization, analysis, detection and mass spectrum interpretation
  • LC-MS based doping analysis

Admission to the course

Students at UiO must apply for courses in StudentWeb.

The course is primarily open to students who have been admitted to the Department?of Pharmacy and master study in Chemistry at the University of Oslo.

Chemistry students apply for admittance to the course and exam in StudentWeb.

Pharmacy students need to contact study administration to apply for admittance to the course and exam.

If there is space available then others may also apply to take the course as long as their academic background is adequate.

International applicants, if you are not already enrolled as a student at UiO, please see our information about admission requirements and procedures for international applicants.
