MULTI2150 – Project-based Research in Multilingualism

Course content

This course gives practical experience in project-based research, either through?collaboration with partner institutions outside of the university or with on-going?research in the Socio-Cognitive Lab. Students will apply basic research skills to a current case or problem related to multilingualism. Students will work in groups to explore and propose a solution to the case that they are presented with. This may include working with an educational institution, a social service institution, health care organization, international company, or other organization, to better understand and address challenges that they experience in relation to multilingualism.?

Students will read literature that is relevant to the project they undertake, and that is selected in consultation with the teacher, up to 1000 pages maximum.

Learning outcome

Students will be able to:

  • Apply linguistic theories and methods to a practical problem
  • Plan and execute a short-term research project in a group with the supervision of the teacher
  • Present research results orally and in writing for both academic and professional audiences

Formal prerequisite knowledge

LING1109 – Fleirspr?klegheit, LING1113 – Psykolingvistikk og sosiolingvistikk or equivalent for BA students. Students without the required background courses may apply to enroll based on other relevant knowledge and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
