The proposed Artificial Intelligence Act of the European Commission advances a by-design regulatory approach, akin to the principles of the GDPR. This approach assumes that in order to effectively shield human rights in the digital ecosystem it is necessary to incorporate ethical principles into the design of the system.  

Dr Konstantinos Polomarkakis is a Lecturer in Law, Exeter, is a visiting fellow at PluriCourts, UiO. He is working on a monograph on ¡°The Judicial Making of Labour Law¡±.
