Bessie Haugen Johnson Scholarship
- Application deadline: March 10, 2026
- 5 scholarships awarded annually
- Amount awarded covers the full basic on-campus fee for the ISS ($4,650). It does not include?additional course fees (for Master's or Norwegian courses), travel or personal expenses.
- Awardees are required to live on campus during the ISS session and are required to?write an essay reflecting on their experiences at the ISS to be due no later than?September 1.
Criteria:
- Applicant essay, one page essay explaining previous travel, study experience and financial need.
- Priority given to?applicants who have never traveled/lived/studied abroad.
- Send essay to iss@stolaf.edu by March 10, 2026.

ISS Partial Scholarships
- Application deadline: March 10, 2026
- Amount awarded varies by recipient, usually between $1,000 and $3,000
- covers the full basic on-campus fee for the ISS ($4,650). It does not include?additional course fees (for Master's or Norwegian courses), travel or personal expenses.
- Awardees are required to live on campus during the ISS session.
Criteria:
- Applicants will submit the same essay as the one detailed above for the Bessie Haugen Johnson Scholarship. Applicants will be considered for both scholarships simultaneously. However, the ISS Partial Scholarship does not place foremost weight on previous travel experience and instead weighs all factors equally.

Sons of Norway Scholarship funds:
- The Sons of Norway Foundation manages an array of scholarship funds available to students interested in studying in Norway. Of the 17 funds available, several funds are specifically designated to funding students who participate in the International Summer School.
- Recommended funds include: Warne-Eng, Lund, District 4
- Amount awarded varies by fund, but can provide up to $3,000.

The Carl M. Saltveit Scholarship*

The Carl M. Saltveit Scholarship Fund is a permanent, endowed scholarship fund designed to encourage and facilitate attendance to the International Summer School (ISS) at the University of Oslo in Norway. The amount of the award varies each year and covers tuition, room and board.
Who is eligible?
Applicants must:
- Have met the entrance requirements and been accepted to attend the International Summer School at the University of Oslo
- Be a current member of District Two or be a child or grandchild of a current member of District Two
- Have completed one full year of college level work.
You do not have to be currently enrolled in school. Applicants of any age who have completed one full year of college level work are eligible to apply.?

Applicants must submit:
- A completed and signed application
- Two essays
- Three letters of recommendation
- An official grade transcript

Lakselaget Scholarship Fund
- The Lakselaget Scholarship Fund was established to celebrate, encourage and advance the?organization's motto, women who swim against the current. Its goal is to promote the?international connections between Norway and the U.S., and learn, teach and share knowledge?that will benefit women in their complex roles in today's society.
Eligibility
- This scholarship is limited to women citizens of the United States?who are residing in Minnesota, are enrolled in undergraduate or graduate studies at an?accredited Minnesota college or university or at the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks,?and are planning to study in Norway.

When applicants have been notified of acceptance by OISS, they can apply to the Sons of Norway Foundation in Canada for a financial grant. Applicants can receive up to a maximum of CDN $750 each, depending on the number of applicants.

Warne - Eng Scholarship
The Warne-Eng Scholarship is operated by the Sons of Norway Foundation and is available to Canadian citizens. Details and application instructions can be found on their website at: sofn.com/foundation/scholarships
Eligibility:
- Applicant must be accepted to study at an accredited, post high school setting in Norway, (including, but not limited to, folk and craft schools, Oslo University International Summer School and other colleges in Norway, music, theatre and technical schools).
- Any current American or Canadian members of the Sons of Norway or Rotary, as well as their children or grandchildren, or mentored by a member of Sons of Norway or Rotary, are eligible to apply.
- Applicant must be willing to share their experiences with Sons of Norway or Rotary groups upon return to the USA.
- Applicants of any age who have completed one full year of college level work, and have been accepted by an educational institution in Norway for undergraduate work, are eligible.
