Semester Abroad
Students in the master's programme in Modern International and Transnational History can choose to spend their third semester abroad, either on an internship or to conduct archival research for a history project.
MITRA4400 - Internship
MITRA4400 - Field Term - Internship provides an opportunity to gain work experience that will be relevant for graduates in Modern International and Transnational History. The course allows students to apply the competences and skills they have acquired during their studies in a non-academic environment.
Students apply for an internship with an international organization, institution or enterprise abroad. Former MITRA students have completed internships at multiple Norwegian diplomatic missions around the world, the Peace Research Institute Oslo and Cyprus Center, Equinor Brussels, Norwegian Nobel Institute, Norwegian Institute in Rome, Beirut: Oriental Institute; Tokyo: Deutsches Institut für Japanstudient, Barentssekretariatet and many more.
Norwegian citizens can also apply for an internship with the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
MITRA4450 - History Project
MITRA4450 – Field Term - History Project provides students with an opportunity to apply their knowledge of history and historiographical skills to pursue an advanced research project within the field of modern international and transnational history. The course is designed to prepare the students for future work in an international research environment.
Students are encouraged to conduct archival research abroad, in order to gain international experience.
Short time mobility in relation to completion of the master's thesis
Master students at IAKH can apply for funds to cover expenses necessary to complete their master's thesis. Reasons for applying can be support for archive journeys or other trips that are essential for the completion of the master's thesis.
