Required specialization
Bachelor's degree
You must have a bachelor’s degree comparable to a Norwegian bachelor’s degree.
Required specialisation and minimum grade requirement
You must have a specialisation of at least 80 ECTS credits required by the programme and a minimum grade average comparable to a Norwegian C. A Norwegian C is described as a good grade, generally comparable to an American B and a Second Class Upper in the British system. We do not use conversion tables for foreign grades. All foreign education is individually evaluated during the admission process.
Please note that eligible applicants who fulfill the minimum grade requirement will compete for a study place. Please see the section on ranking below for more information on which subjects are calculated to determine the minimum grade average.
The required specialisation consists of 90 ECTS credits where the following, or equivalent, courses are included:
- 60 ECTS credits of chemistry courses with laboratory, including:
- KJM1101 – Generell kjemi or MENA1001 – Materials, Energy and Nanotechnology
- KJM1121 - Inorganic chemistry I
- KJM1130 – Physical Chemistry I - Thermodynamics and Kinetics
- 20 ECTS credits within chemistry or material science at advanced undergraduate level (3000 level) . If the course KJM.MENA3120 or MENA3000 – Functional materials (discontinued) , or equivalent, is not included in your bachelor's degree, the course KJM4120 - Inorganic chemistry II or MENA4000 - Functional materials must be taken as part of the theoretical curriculum for the master's degree.
- 10 ECTS credits unspecified chemistry course
- 20 ECTS credits within mathematics
- 10 ECTS credits within physics
A minimum grade average of C (Norwegian grading scale), or equivalent, is required for 80 ECTS credits of the following, or equivalent:
KJM1101 or MENA1001, KJM1121, KJM1130, 30 ECTS credits of chemistry courses where 20 ECTS credits must be at advanced undergraduate level (3
