Create. Present. Win!

Learn to design impactful scientific posters in this hands-on workshop - and gain the unique opportunity to present your poster at the upcoming conference "The Future of Energy" attended by researchers, industry experts, and government representatives.

Compete for the best poster prize, where attendees of the conference vote could win you two Interrail tickets! Don’t miss this chance to share your research at the University Library at Blindern, January 14 2026!

What will you learn?

In this workshop, you will gain the skills needed to create clear and visually appealing scientific posters.

Here is what we will cover in the workshop:

  • Understanding basic design principles to improve visual appeal and readability.
  • Conveying research objectives, methods, results, and conclusions clearly and efficiently.
  • Drafting your own poster with real-time feedback to refine your approach.
  • Analyzing successful examples to identify what makes them effective.

Target audience

This workshop is open for second-year master's students that have progressed with data collection and analysis in their research project, PhD students and postdoctoral researchers at the University of Oslo. Students or young researchers from the partners of The Future of Energy conference, IFE, NGI, BI, Municipality of Oslo and Sintef are also welcome to join.

Requirements

To participate in the workshop and present your poster in the conference, your research must cover one or more of UiO:Energy and Environment's main research areas. We welcome all disciplines to participate, as long as your research fits within these areas.

To be eligible to present at The Future of Energy conference, you must submit your poster by January 6, 12:00 for print. All costs related to the workshop and printing process are covered by UiO:Energy and Environment.

Preparations

All participants must bring a draft of the poster they intend to develop, as this will be the primary focus of the workshop. The draft can be in any format—digital (any software) or hand-drawn on paper—and does not need to be complete.

This workshop emphasizes design thinking to improve your draft, rather than instructing on specific software use. It's crucial that you bring this draft, as you will be actively working on refining it during the session.

Not able to join the workshop?

If you are unable to attend the poster workshop, you can sign up directly to the competition by using the online form below. Your poster will be displayed on a poster wall in the vestibule of Georg Sverdrups hus (GSH). While you are not required to remain by your poster throughout the event, we kindly ask that you be present during the breaks. Additional details will be sent out in December.

Conference participants will vote for the best poster using a QR code. The winner will be announced at the end of the final session.
