Strenghtening democracy through knowledge
UiO:Democracy is the University of Oslo's initiative to produce and disseminate knowledge that helps develop democracy.
UiO:Democracy addresses current democratic issues and challenges by stimulating interdisciplinary research on democracy, disseminating knowledge through communication and open events, and collaborating with stakeholders across sectors outside of academia.
UiO:Democracy is one of the University of Oslo's three interdisciplinary initiatives, in addition to UiO:Energy and Environment and UiO:Life Science.

Main thematic tracks
UiO:Democracy aims to establish a collective ownership to research on democracy. The following thematic tracks will be explored through interdisciplinary research and cooperation:
- Democracy as a form of governance and the institutions of democracy
- Citizens, diversity, and inequality
- The role and function of knowledge
- Democracy and crisis management
- Democracy in everyday life
In addition to these thematic tracks, UiO:Democracy has three cross-cutting dimensions: sustainability, globalization, and digitalization. This is described in UiO:Democracy’s Foundational document (PDF).
