The Heart Research Prize was awarded to Sigrun Halvorsen

Halvorsen receives the prize for her many years of contribution to better treatments, new guidelines, her ability to convert her own research results into clinical patient care, and her dissemination of research in cardiology. 'There are so many exciting things,' she says.

The Dementia Research Prize was awarded to Jens Pahnke

Pahnke is awarded the prize for important research on causal relationships in dementia, the discovery of new risk genes, and the development of new methods for diagnosis. Pahnke is also honored for fostering collaboration and innovation in the field across borders and research groups.

Briefings to our staff

• UiO: Rector Election 2025: Use your right to vote! The election closes on April 4 at 8 AM! The winner of the election will be announced on Scene Humsam ( The university library) and will be streamed live from 4:15 PM on Friday, April 4.

• Uniforum: Nominating two candidate pairs in the rector election gives the UiO voters more power. Remember to nominate two candidates. If no one receives more than 50% in the first round, the candidate with the fewest votes will be eliminated. If the candidate who is eliminated is the only one you nominated, you will end up not having voted in the second round.

• UiO: Nominate your candidate for the University Board. New representatives for the University Board will be elected in May. Propose others or yourself as a candidate. The deadline is 22 April.

• Studies at MED: Internship gives our students a relevant work practice. With a master degree in Health Economics, Policy and Managment you have the opportunity to shape the future of healthcare.

• The Growth House for value creation: The annual report for 2024 is ready. Many of our researchers have received support from the Growth House. Read and be inspired by the innovation examples from last year, and apply for funding and participate in courses and seminars organized by the Growth House this year

• IMB: The study that placed Norway on the cardiology world map is being commemorated: On April 8, a jubilee symposium will be held for Terje R. Pedersen, who 30 years ago presented the first findings from the 4S study, the Scandinavian Simvastatin Survival Study. Professor Kjetil Retterst?l will lead the first part of the event and will give a lecture in the second part on the prevention of cardiovascular disease

• IMB: Excavation work at Domus Medica: Delayed demolition of the hospital hotel and closed walkway.
• UiO: The deadline of May 1 for applying for your main vacation is approaching. Check your vacation quota in the portal or on the DF? mobile app, and apply for your vacation as soon as possible.
• UiO: System message: A strengthening of international cooperation:  The government reverses its position on two controversial issues.. It will remove the requirement for Norwegian courses for foreign researchers and is considering more flexible regulations regarding tuition fees for students outside the EU/EEA. 
• UiO: Donate blood during working hours. 

Management meetings

• Department meeting: The next meeting is on 15 April. The meetings are held every other Tuesday from 13:30 to 15:30. Agenda papers should be sent by 12:00 on the preceding Thursday.
• The Faculty Director's section meeting every Monday at 12:00.
• Overview of Faculty Board meetings and IDF meetings in 2025 with deadlines for submitting items. The next Faculty Board meeting is on 8 April 2025. The agenda and minutes for the Faculty Board are updated here.
• Meetings of the University Board in 2025, with agendas and minutes. The meetings are streamed and open for anyone who wishes to follow along. The next meeting is on 6 May.

  • Student unions and academic staff at the University of Oslo can now apply to UiO:Life Science for funding to co-finance open events. The maximum amount is NOK 100,000 or up to 50% of the total costs.Deadline is 1st June 2025..
