UN Climate Change Conferences

UiO can nominate a limited number of participants to the UN Climate Change Conferences. Both students and employees may apply for accreditation.

UiO is approved as a non-governmental organization with observer status at the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). This means that UiO can nominate delegates for participation at the annual climate summits (Conference of Parties - COP), and to the annual climate negotiations in Bonn.

As an accredited observer, participants have access to the official conference and negotiation areas, as well as other side events and meeting venues.

Bonn Climate Change Conference

The Bonn Climate Change conferences are annual negtiation meetings under the UNFCCC. These meetings bring together representatives from member states, researchers, and civil society to prepare and follow up on decisions made at the climate conferences (COP).

The next Bonn Climate Change Conference (SB62) will convene from 16 to 26 June 2025 in Bonn, Germany. For more information about the event, see UNFCCC's website UN June Climate meetings (SB 62).

UN Climate Change Conference 2025

The next UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) will convene from 10 to 21 November 2025 in Belém, Brazil. More information about the event is available on the UN Climate Change Conference 2025 website (UNFCCC).

How do I apply for accreditation?

The nomination of the UiO delegates is administered by Christina Voigt at The Faculty of Law. All applicants must briefly describe their motivation and interest in participating. UiO will then nominate participants, and the UNFCCC secretariat will decide how many slots UiO is allocated for the conference.

How to apply for accreditation to the next UN Climate change conference:

  1. Keep an eye out for when the application process opens. This usually happens towards the end of February for the Bonn climate change conference (SB), and in September for the UN Climate Change Conference (COP).
  2. Contact Christina Voigt at the Faculty of Law for more information. E-mail: christina.voigt@jus.uio.no
  3. UiO will submit the application for accreditation to the UNFCCC for accreditation.

Please note that the number of allocated accreditations awarded is very limited.
