Lunch with B?rd Lahn

The week opened on Monday with an inspiring lunch talk by UiO researcher B?rd Lahn at Realfagsbiblioteket, titled “Unburnable Oil – Power and Responsibility in the Norwegian Energy Transition.”?

Lahn highlighted Norway’s continued economic reliance on oil and gas exports and introduced the “oil paradox”: the ongoing search for new petroleum resources that cannot be extracted if climate targets are to be met. He also discussed how public debate has shaped perceptions of which emissions Norway is responsible for – onshore emissions or those linked to exported fuels.

Workshop with LAG and Folk mot Fossilmakt

On Tuesday, The Latin America Group (LAG) and Folk mot Fossilmakta joined us at the Green Office to host an interactive workshop on political writing.?

The session began with Juan from LAG sharing his personal story as a political refugee and writer from Colombia, highlighting how writing can be a tool for resistance and change. Holly from Folk mot Fossilmakta then guided the group through discussion prompts and writing exercises that encouraged participants to reflect, express, and engage.?

The warm and lively atmosphere helped create meaningful conversations about activism.

Panel Discussion: Why aren’t we transitioning?

On Wednesday we hosted a panel discussion at Klimahuset in the Botanical Gardens. Experts Klaus Mohn, Camilla Houeland, Anne Karin S?ther, and Knut Einar Rosendahl discussed pressing questions surrounding Norway’s dependency on oil.?

The conversation was moderated by engineering student Markus Refsdal from the Green Student Movement, who challenged the panel to diagnose why the energy transition is not progressing as needed and to suggest ways forward.?

The audience engagement was remarkable, with dialogue that underscored the urgent need for a responsible shift from oil and gas to renewable energy.?

Panel Discussion: Electricity for dummies

In a lively setting during Thursday Pub at the student pub U1 the Energy Transition Week ended with a enlightening, but entertaining discussion on the electricity market and the new “Norgespris.”?

With well-prepared speakers – Labor Party politician Agnes Viljugrein, Sabima leader Einar Wilhelmsen, and Vindr manager Andreas Thon Aasheim – and captivating moderator Hauk Brochman, the conversation was filled with critical questions, clarifications about the dynamics of the electricity market, and humorous and constructive differences in perspectives between the panelists.?
